Time warp!

This week's Blog Tour question is "If you could live in any time period, which one would it be? And why?"

This was an easy one for me, which helps to explain why I'm actually doing it for once :) It helps that it's a very common "getting to know you" question in my classes! If the De Lorean showed up on my doorstep tomorrow, I would travel back to the 1920's.

There are so many interesting time periods that are worth visiting, but they all seem to pale in comparison. There's something so lively about the roaring 20's (hence the nickname, right?). The music, the clothes, the romance, the stimulation, the overwhelming and exciting changes society was going through at the time.... How could I resist?

In addition to that (which is enough of an argument in favor of the 20's for me!), there's also the appeal of a simpler kind of life (when I'm not out dancing in shockingly short skirts that show my ankles, that is!). If I bother to sit down and think about it, of course, there's no way I'd ever ever ever give up my modern conveniences. But the fantasy of it, of getting down to more basic things in life, making food with my own hands (instead of out of the Pasta-roni box), not relying on the television for constant company, not stressing over finding the best deal on internet and cable and a cell phone, is very appealing. And yet, in the 20's, it wasn't soooo simple that you didn't have some modern comforts (like toilets). It seems like a perfect balance, and a great place to travel during my escapist fantasies.

And plus, I look great with short hair :D

Random blogging

Since I have this thing, I might as well write in it, huh? It's 3am, and I have nothing to say, but everyone else is in bed, and I'm not even close to tired.

Finally got a chance to listen to my new Johnny Winter album (Live in NYC '97). I could listen to "She likes to boogie real low" a thousand times in a row, but I should probably resist the urge...

I'm really exciting you guys, aren't I? ;) I'll put in a nice picture to make up for the boredom... Here's a wee chipmunk that Alex took a picture of at the zoo.
Now that you've all melted, I'll be back when I have something to say. I knew there was a reason I didn't blog. :)

Super Rainha!

This week's topic: What kind of superpower would you have if you could pick anything?

This one's easy. Definitely flying. Invincibility would get boring after the first few centuries, I'd imagine, and leaping tall buildings with a single bound or swinging around on webs is really just a poor substitute for flight :) X-ray vision sound fun, but just imagine the first family reunion...

So, I'd have to go with flying. Imagine what you'd save on gas! And you'd never get stuck in traffic again. Flying combined with superhuman strength would be better, of course, because then you could take your luggage with you.

And you know that smelly guy on the bus? The one that makes you glad you didn't opt for x-ray vision? You'll never have to smell him again. Just hop off the roof, and soar away to wherever you need or want to be.

Of course, it might not be so fun in blizzards.

Summer!

In honor of it being the last day of finals, and also because it's the topic of the week for this blog tour thingy, I'm going to babble on about summer. I shall use my powers of selective memory to ignore the summer class I have to start in July....

What am I looking forward to? That's a good question. Sleep. That's number 1. Time off, closely tied with Sleep. It's looking to be a good summer outside of the apartment, too. My mom and a couple friends rented a cabin in Beverly Shores, Indiana, so Alex and I should be spending a few days to a week there. My brother and sister in law might be joining us, too. The only downside is that my mom will be there, but I think she's finally realized that I will need to do my own thing sometimes if I go on vacation with her, because I can only take so much.

Alex's birthday is coming up, too! Of course, it just happens to fall on the same day as the Pride Parade, which means that I'm gonna have to either convince him to go to the parade on his birthday, or miss it :( I blame his mother, she should have had him on the 30th ;) I don't know what we're really doing yet, he keeps changing his mind. He's like a 7 year old, one day he wants to go to Six Flags, the next day he wants to do something in the city, the next day he wants to get together with friends, or go to the zoo, and I keep telling him that we can do more than one thing, on more than one day! Right about now the new water park at Six Flags is sounding good, though. It's hot in Chicago!

I'm also hoping to learn to drive this summer, since I'm student teaching in fall, and it'll be hard to do with no car. My brother's had his license for a year now, so he can legally teach me, which is great, because it's either that or my mother.

I just noticed this thing is autosaving my draft as I type. Cool :)

That's all I can think of that I'm doing this summer, but after such a busy quarter, that's enough!

Hello!

Well, boredom and exhaustion have motivated me to join in a group of bloggers on a forum I frequent, so here I am!
